What to Expect Between Now and 2026

In addition to the statewide events listed above, the West Virginia Semiquincentennial Commission is thrilled to announce the following initiatives and activities are planned throughout 2024, 2025 and 2026.

  • Publication of the West Virginia Legacy Project, a book written and compiled by West Virginia students under the collaborative guidance of the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the West Virginia Department of Education (2025).
  • A book printed by 2026 will provide a brief description of National Register resources dating prior to 1815 and their historic significance.
  • Calendars from the State Historic Preservation Office for 2025 and 2026 will focus on the American Revolutionary period.
  • Special Vandalia Gathering themed around the America 250th celebration (2026).
  • Fourth of July Holiday Fly-Around where the Governor will visit several West Virginia cities (2026).
  • Fourth of July Celebration at the State Capitol culminating in fireworks (2026).
  • Special “student” edition of Goldenseal magazine with articles and images about the Revolutionary War times.
  • Creation of a time capsule to be open at the America 300th Anniversary celebration.
  • Limited one-of-a-kind art pieces and collectibles to honor the America 250th celebration.
  • Themed lecture series that will focus on life in the area during and before the Revolutionary War period.
